Teaching is my passion.
When I was four, everyone said I'd grow up to be a teacher. Of course I mostly didn't believe them because like many in the under five set, I was quite certain my prima ballerina plans would come true. But a few decades and a few forays into other endeavors later, and I can say without hesitation that I am a teacher: I love watching others light up when they grasp a new concept, seeing someone excel where they previously struggled, and guiding students as they explore & improve skills. And I would love to teach for you! I am currently offering the following workshops:
QUILTING
Intro to Quilting: Starshine Baby Quilt (6 hours) - This class is perfect for confident beginners. We'll practice wonky stars, discuss color placement and the value of efficient chain piecing, and learn how to achieve smooth borders. Student will finish a crib size quilt top and master a few advanced beginner techniques so they'll feel confident conquering larger projects.
Flimsy-In-A-Day: Meadow Walk Quilt (6 hours) - The perfect pattern to play with rainbows! This project is FQ friendly and looks stunning in either solids or prints. The workshop will cover color and pattern placement, and is perfect for a fun day of sewing with friends while enhancing your skills. Students will leave with a completed throw quilt top. Free pattern provided.
HST Shortcuts: Topiary Quilt (3 or 6 hours) - It's all about the 2's table in this class for advanced beginners. Learn shortcuts for sailing through half-square-triangles while creating blocks for either a pillow (in the half day class) or a baby quilt (in the full day class). Students will leave ready to quilt their project and with lots of efficient skills for tackling HSTs in their next project. Recommended ruler: Quilt in a Day 6 1/2" Triangle Square Up
SEWING
Raw Edge Applique: Design Your Own Decor (3 hours) - I enjoy the playfulness of this technique, and in this advanced beginner class, I'll coach students as they tailor their applique ideas to their own projects. I'll share tips for designing, fusing and securing raw edge applique, and can either let students dream up their own decor or provide project frameworks for home decor or baby gifts.
Parent/Child Intro to Sewing (3 hour workshop/or/local series of four 1 hour classes) - A great way to introduce children (ages 8 and up) to sewing, and for new through confident beginner parents to brush up on their own skills and take home ideas for fostering creative sewing and skills mastery at home. We'll start with sewing machine basics and progress to kids' projects!
