![]() I should really be at my sewing machine because Mrs. Claus still has one last project to finish, but I just got done sewing the theater curtains and have to take a quick break to show you the finished dress up closet/puppet theater that Santa is bringing! Lots of credit to Ana White's easy-to-follow plans and to The Picky Apple for thinking of adding the theater, plus my dad for cutting all the wood and pre-drilling everything for me so all I had to add was paint, hardware, curtains and costumes. Originally I was going to purchase something very similar from Guidecraft, but I hated the pastels of their product and thought I could build it for less. I was delighted to find similar plans online and then the theater idea just seemed too perfect not to incorporate! My dad and I made a slight change to the design to allow the front to hinge so the girls won't have to climb over the front lip to use the theater. Now that it's finally complete, I am absolutely thrilled with how it turned out! You can see in the pics below how it spins around from dress up storage to puppet theater, and how the front hinges down flush with the bottom for the theater : )

I love the theater/dress up piece! I too found the plans for just the dress-up station and was going to make just that until I came upon your photos. I love how it is 2 in 1! I was just wondering what the dimensions of it are. I'm hoping to build this in time for xmas. 12/6/2013 05:02:14
Thanks, April! This storage piece has been so useful for my girls. It measures 38" wide, 45" tall, 12" deep. Front hinged side is 8" high and the back theater side is 19" high. I used piano hinges on the front so the side lays flat to the floor and can be stepped on when they use the theater; cabinet magnet latches hold it shut when it's up. Hope yours comes out great!

I love your take on the design! Would you be able to list the wood list and cuts to make this? It's so practical and cute; I would love to be able to make a similar one for my daughters upcoming birthday. Thank you for sharing! 2/15/2014 22:41:54
I didn't do the woodworking, Nicole, and my dad doesn't really remember specifics. It's very similar to the Ana White plan I linked, except that the height of the sides is 45" with the shelf about 5" below that, theater side wall is 20" tall, and the dress-up side has piano hinges and cabinet latches. There are a few other brags posts on Ana's site with top shelves, so some of them might have a cut list that's helpful : ) Hope yours turns out well! It's been a really functional piece of furniture for us. Comments are closed.
