Sunday Triangle QAL Stash Share

3/23/2014

I fought the urge as long as I could... I have so much coming up, but I am *loving* all the triangle quilts I'm seeing out there, and I just couldn't resist jumping in to the Triangle Quilt Along hosted by Paula at The Sassy Quilter!
Picture
When it came time to decide on a color scheme for my quilt, I knew immediately where to find my inspiration. I've been crushing on many of the palettes used by Nancy over at Wisely Crafted Originals. The gorgeous "Ashton" headband above was pinned to my color board a few months ago and hasn't left my mind since. I'm not even sure how I originally stumbled across her shop, but ever since I've been popping by periodically to check out her delightful designs because I love her eye for color. She was nice enough to let me share her image here - I love not only the design, but also the beautifully staged photo of her work! (And on a side note, if you have any little angels who could use some accessories, it seems she's having a sale in her shop right now, too!)
Triangle QAL fabrics | Berry Barn Designs
For the Triangle QAL, Paula suggests 1/3 of a yard of 13 different fabrics, but since I will probably have to find a new place to live if my husband sees the UPS guy here again any time soon ; ) I went ahead and pulled a bunch of mostly fat quarters from my stash to be "thrifty" hehe. I'm going to use more coral and navy, with just accents of yellow and grey, so I should definitely have enough of the latter, and I can "splurge" on an piece or two of the others the next time I'm at Joann's with a coupon if I end up needing just a tad more.

Here's a quick run down of the stash:
Yellow (l-r): Potluck by American Jane, Glimma by Lotta Jansdotter, Rainboo Zoo by Red Rooster Fabrics, Piper by Dear Stella, Glimma, Glimma
Navy (l-r): Simply Style by V and Co, unknown, Aunt Grace Scrap Bag by Judy Rothermel, unknown, unknown, unknown*, Lifestyle Collection by Liberty of London, Glimma
Coral (l-r): Outfoxed by Lizzy House, Sketch by Timeless Treasures, Mini Confetti Dots by Dear Stella, Sweet by Urban Chicks, Pezzy Print by American Jane, Mini Confetti Dots, Scrumptious by Bonnie & Camille, 2wenty Thr3e by Eric & Julie Comstock, Charleston by Judy Rothermel, Apple of My Eye by Riley Blake
Grey (l-r): unknown, unknown, Shuffle by Riley Blake, ? by Riley Blake, Glimma, Glimma
*I don't know what this navy and white plaid is, but it's a recent purchase
and I'd love more - does anyone recognize it??
Just for fun, I ran the headband photo through Play Crafts newest version of Palette Builder. You can now match Hex codes, Kona cottons, and Aurifil threads to your images! I think I need to hunt down some of the Beige #2314 for piecing - anyone seen any great deals on Aurifil out there recently?

Great colour scheme and I love how you've taken the inspiration for it from the headband.

Thanks! Really I hope people check out her shop because she has the most gorgeous eye for color : )

Great colors and love all those fabrics. Nice job pulling fabrics!

Sarah link
3/23/2014 00:39:59

Thank you, Charlotte! This isn't a set of colors I'd normally pull, but I'm glad for a chance to use the mustards and corals in my stash since I end to overlook them.

Yay! Glad to see you were roped in by the triangle along! What a gorgeous colour scheme. This is going to look fabulous!

Sarah link
3/23/2014 00:45:39

How could I resist with all the amazing triangles popping up on your blog and around the community? Can't wait to see how your very bright design comes out, Lorna : )

Oh no! Another QAL that tempts me. Honestly, I person could have every last minute of the day filled with quilting! Great colour choices!

Sarah link
3/23/2014 09:32:11

I know, Jenn! I said I was taking a little break after hosting my challenge this month to get caught up, but I cannot resist - I am loving all the triangles out there so much, and Paula said we can join even if we do something smaller than her throw quilt size : )

Alison @ LBQ link
3/23/2014 01:27:49

I am so glad that you're doing this too! :)

Sarah link
3/23/2014 09:30:49

Yeah! More fun stuff to ogle on Flickr besides Stash Bee : )

Great fabrics and colour scheme. I am itching to start cutting. ..

Sarah link

Me, too, Lisa! I can't wait to see yours as we go along : )

Adrienne link

Lovely colors! I am trying to resist the triangles...

Sarah link
3/23/2014 09:29:18

Do it, Adrienne! I think I'm just going to make a baby quilt because I'm so busy, but you can join and even do something little like a pillow or table runner : )

the quilt along is going to be fun, lots of people joining up, me included lol love the colors you've chosen, i just finished a coral and navy quilt, i like how you added the yellow.

Sarah link
3/23/2014 09:28:03

Thanks, Barbe! I really have to give all the palette props to that photo I found because I am not a mustard person at all. That said, I seem to have a bunch that have creeped into my stash via collections and now I at least have a way to use them up!

Natasha link

Your fabric choices are perfect and have a great balance. I love how crisp the blues look. They will look fabulous all together.

Sarah link
3/23/2014 09:26:04

Thank you, Natasha! I love navies - I wish I had more that were a shade less than dark, you know? This was the most I could pull, but I like how they look, too : )

Kristel link
3/23/2014 09:45:59

This is going to be so gorgeous! I LOVE those navies you've got (all my favourites are all the unknowns... isnt' that the way things always go :D)

I'm still toying with the idea of the triangle QAL - I'd like to do it, but I have SO many projects already and I really, really need to finish something instead of always starting.... but I love starting new things! Decisions.

Sarah link
3/23/2014 14:07:56

I'm definitely a starter and not a finisher, too, Kristel! What about just a small triangle something? You know you want to... ; )

Nice choices….I wish I had time to take part :-( but I need to start that sampler quilt pattern.

Sarah link
3/23/2014 14:02:04

Thanks, Michelle! The only reason I sort of have time is because I'm headed off on a quilt retreat in two weeks. I'd better get a lot of it done there or I'll be in big trouble lol.

I LOVE that color scheme. Navy and coral with a hint of mustard? BRILLIANT. Your fabric pull looks pretty splendid, too!

Sarah link
3/23/2014 14:06:20

Aww, thanks, Daisy! But really it's the pic - I'm not a mustard girl at all, but I just love how well it plays seeing someone else pair it!

CeLynn

How cool is that,to pull your inspiration form the pretty headband?! Love your fabrics Sarah, this is going to be a great quilt! Going to check out some eye candy ;) Thanks for sharing the link.

Sarah link
3/23/2014 14:09:17

Thanks, CeLynn! I keep ogling her designs for colors... and thinking *maybe* if we're blessed with another girl, I'll know exactly where to start my shopping! All my friends are having boys right now though : P

Oh my goodness, I absolutely adore that color combination!! I haven't heard about triangle quilts I will need to take a look!

Sarah link
3/25/2014 10:26:46

Thank you, Alisa! I'd say jump in, but I'm sure you're busy packing - still, nothing like a new quilt for a new house, right? ; )

You did a great job following your inspiration! Love these combos. Anne's Palette Builder is pretty cool!

Sarah link
3/25/2014 13:29:26

Thanks, Paula! I'm looking forward to seeing how they all play out once I have my triangles cut : )

KimM link
3/27/2014 02:18:35

Love your fabric pull! I wish I had time to join this quilt-along right now since a triangle quilt is on my bucket list. I'm going to love watching what everyone else creates though!

Sarah link
3/27/2014 10:53:36

My saving grace for the Triangle QAL, Kim, is the quilting retreat I have next weekend - whatever I get done at it will be it for a while, so hoping I make great progress all at once! Thanks for stopping by : )
