A few months ago Sarah Goer and I were discussing our kids' current sewing projects (we each have two eager littles who love working with us in our respective studios), and mentioned how we were certain to see them at their machines even more once school let out. I mulled over our conversation a bit, later proposing a project to her that they could all collaborate on, and then *poof* the Kids Quilt Round Robin was born!
This summer we have nine children from across the US who'll be working on quilt projects for each other. Beginning in May, kids will sew the first block (or row) for their quilt and then ship it off. In June, July & August they'll receive someone else's set of blocks and add a section to it with their own take on the requested palette or theme. Then in September, each child will receive their original block back, along with three others from their team, and will assemble their quilt. It'll be neat to see what they sew!
We're excited for the kids' creativity to shine in their work, and to see how they all interpret the ideas of their KQRR team mates. Sarah & I will post periodically with updates as the kids share pictures of their sewing (my girls are posting on Instagram @berrybarnkids if you'd like to follow along in real time!) and you can find everyone's updates tagged with #kidsquiltroundrobin. In November, we'll host a hop to showcase the finished quilts from all the kids. We look forward to sharing about the Kids Quilt Round Robin with you!
P.S. Do your kids quilt? Looking for a summer stitching project? Sew along with us from home! We're making a finished 40" square quilt with 4 blocks or rows. Tag us @berrybarndesigns & @sarahmgoer in progress shots as your littles sew along!
