Goals: 4x7 Sewing Challenge... Starts Tomorrow!

1/31/2016

It's the eve of February and that means one thing: the 4x7 Sewing Challenge is about to begin! Starting bright and early tomorrow morning, I'll be hovering over my sewing machine (because this year I'm setting a daily alarm and waking up before my kids to ensure my success ; ) Hopefully you'll be in your studio tomorrow, too - I'm excited to see both familiar and fresh new faces in the challenge this year, and I'm even more excited to see what you create!

The challenge's main goals are to sew daily and sew for yourself. This year I'm choosing a set of "P" projects to focus on. Here's my plan:

Pj pants: In purple flannel for the #purplesewingchallenge!

Picnic quilt: Plan and prep fabrics for our family picnic quilt using Technicolor & old jeans. Bonus: Also fulfills the first challenge of #sewmystash2016!

PATTERN: Write one pattern, one very simple "dipping my toe" pattern. Publish.
Word of the year stuff right here for me, folks!

(Are you following the Pattern Writing Blog Series at Meadow Mist Designs? It's excellent!)
How about you? What are your goals for the challenge?
If you're posting about your plans, leave a link in the comments to share!
Have a great first week of selfish sewing! I'll see you back here next Sunday to link up your progress for a chance to WIN! You can link up from your blog, Instagram or Flickr, so document your progress and pop over to share. Be sure to use the #4x7sewingchallenge hashtag so we can find your photos and see what you're up to between now and then : )

Hrm.. not sure. My January was a rock star start. I will be working on the two blocks for Gen X ' s Sister Sampler and probably working on a quilt idea in my head. I may not keep the end project but the process is always for me.

I hope that you have a great month of sewing for you! I would be happy to proof read your pattern when you get to that point. :)

Great list of P's! I love the fabrics you are going to use for the picnic quilt. Thanks for the lovely words about the Pattern Writing Workshop Series!

I'm in this year! I've got modest goals (just some EPP work) but I'm looking forward to seeing progress on something that might otherwise get tossed to the side. Thanks for hosting!

Hi! I just saw your periscope! I'd love to try to join, but I do have a couple non-selfish projects I also need to get done in February. However, I made my first ever garment (a washi top) in December, and would love to make a goal of maybe 3 garments for February. Yikes, I'm already thinking I should drop it to 2, but I'm really going to push for 3!!

Also, you asked for suggestions for the picnic quilt. One of my bucket list quilts is a denim cathedral window quilt aka circle blue jeans quilt. Google will show you if you aren't familiar with it! :)

I'm using your pants fabric (not flannel) in my Royalty quilt. :-) Thanks for the motivation. I've pulled my Swoon project out to work on for the challenge.

I just found out about this challenge. I am so excited. I hope my project counts as I am not doing it by myself. My 7 year old has been begging me to help her make her own quilt. We just started yesterday. So it's not "just for me" but the fact that I'm getting to share something I love with someone I love is pretty special. We are making memories, spending time together and that is priceless in a busy family of 6.

Hi, sorry, I meant to post last night, but here I am excited to get started! I started a log cabin quilt in early January, then stopped working on it...well, I want to try to keep working on it. It's for my sister-in-law who is a fabulous cook! I plan on posting in Instagram, so hopefully I do this right!!

I wrote a blog post! http://kimberlyrennie.blogspot.com/2016/02/sewing-4x7-february-challenge.html Though my projects may change, but I did post several on the blog. Last night I made the Aurifil BOM and tonight I am working on getting my skate project ready, since the class is Thursday!

I'm a bit late, but I hope to get a baby quilt finished that I had cut out over a year ago, keep working on 2 ongoing projects. One is an EPP one and the other a counted cross-stitch Christmas stocking for my granddaughter.
