Friday Finish: "Love for a Neighbor" Quilt

Last week another mom in my daughter's Kindergarten class asked if in lieu of gifts for the teacher, we would instead send in donations for a family who had just lost everything in a house fire. The teacher is good friends with the family, and she had been very concerned about their ability to celebrate the holidays following such a huge loss. As tends to be the case in our community, the response was amazing - hundreds of dollars in gift cards, plus groceries and household items. And a quilt.
With a due date less than a week out, I had to choose a pattern quickly, and immediately thought of the Moda Love LayerCake Quilt. Having pinned this design months ago for how bright and cheery the layout looked, it was the perfect pattern for the project: fast but with a great modern traditional vibe that I thought would fit for a family I didn't know personally. Plus, I was able to use a colorful FQ set that had been languishing in my stash, and I'm thrilled to have put it to use in such a meaningful project.
I did tweak the design a bit at the outer corners, but it's very similar to Moda's version. I quilted it with loops, adding a little heart in each of the bright solid blocks so the quilt would have lots of love to spare <3 Hopefully it will be well used and well loved as the family rebuilds after such a big setback.
I ended up completing this quilt from start to finish in 5 days, which is a new record for me (that I think will stand a good long while!). A nice change of tempo after finishing the very belated birthday quilts recently.
So I'm curious: what's your personal best time for finishing a larger quilt?
(I'm sure someone out there can top my record! ; )

Cute quilt. Sad there was need for it, but so nice you could do so quickly. I dont have a wuick finush time but so far my longest start to finish is 17 years. I have more tops from that era ready to baste so will have even longer times then! 😃

Oh my, Sarah, this is gorgeous!! And absolutely stunning. Your color placement, piecing, quilting--it comes together so nicely, and I agree it's the perfect choice for a family you don't know. I'm not much of a contender for the quilt races... my shortest timeframe for just about any quilt (let along "large") is probably around 3 months. My longest.... is a few years and counting (hides head).

Love the bright and cheery nature of this quilt. My quickest quilt finish was 48 hours from concept to finish and in the mail to a friend who lost her son to cancer. It is amazing what you can do when you are that motivated.

Such a happy quilt! I love all the white negative space. I think my record was a week, but it was a very simple design. :-)

At first I did not see the pattern and I thought it is random placement :) Congrats on fast and pretty finish!

I have made a large quilt in about 8-10 hours total before (spread over 2 days, I think), but it is *so* dependent on the design and quilting choice. This really shows your generous spirit and I am sure the family appreciates all the love, kindness, and support they received from the community.
