We're about to jump in the car and take off for a week of family camping now that my husband is home again (and not a moment too soon! I have nothing but awe and praise for all the single parents out there - I only did two months this go round, and I was coasting on fumes by the end). We're camping "unplugged" so the laptop's staying home, but before I leave I want to show you my very first custom order! A good friend and fellow milspouse asked me to create a nap mat for her daughter who is entering Kindergarten this year (and in true Army brat style, starting in one school before promptly moving to another - the latter of which, fortunately for me, has quiet time requiring a nap mat ; ) They asked for pink and purple, and I think I've delivered. It wasn't as easy as I thought it would be, though. At first I was surprised to find just how few choices I had in this color scheme, having gone fabric shopping with a certain aesthetic and scale in mind (and not wanting sparkles that would rub off on everything - seriously, why is every other kids' print infused with sparkles all of a sudden??). Finally at the third store I visited, I stumbled upon the "Off to Neverland" print. Knowing they're also big Disney fans, I finally had the perfect accent fabric that allowed me to tie in the solid pinks and purples that were available. I'm delighted with how it turned out, even if it's not like what I had originally envisioned when I was given my color scheme.

What do you do when you have a certain idea for a project and can't find what you're looking for? Do you make do, search to the ends of the Earth, or get to work creating your own fabric instead?
