4x7 Sewing Challenge - COMPLETE!

2/28/2015

4x7 Sewing Challenge at Berry Barn Designs
I know February is a short, but still - wow, did these four weeks fly! The 4x7 Sewing Challenge is done! Though hopefully many of you will use the month's worth of practice setting aside time for your sewing as a jumping off point to carve out more time for it all year long. So how'd you do with your goals? Was it easier or harder than you expected to commit to a daily sewing practice?

4x7 Sewing Challenge - Week 3

2/20/2015

4x7 Sewing Challenge {Berry Barn Designs}
I can't believe we only have one week left in February! I'm so not ready for spring to be right around the corner. Well, I'm a tad ready to leave the house in less than four layers, but not for the actual date on the calendar to read March. Way too many quilty things I want to get done before warm weather beckons me outside (though with yet another snowstorm on the way tonight, maybe I'm worrying needlessly ; )

4x7 Sewing Challenge - Week 2

We're halfway done with the challenge! How is everyone doing with their goals? I have to admit that I did very little longarming this week - I think only two days - but I absolutely hit my 30 minutes a day of selfish sewing, just mostly on my domestic. (Though one of the longarming days was a few hours' worth, so I think I'm still pretty much on track overall ; )

4x7 Sewing Challenge - Week 1

2/7/2015

4x7 Sewing Challenge at Berry Barn Designs
So... how was your first week of the 4x7 Sewing Challenge??! When I tackle new habits and commitments, I always find the first week the easiest because I'm excited and motivated and have the best of intentions, so this week was fun for me and I managed to get my thirty minutes of "selfish sewing" in every single day. But next week might very well be a different story ; )

I made practicing on my new-ish longarm my goal for the entire month, and I hope to have a sampler book of designs to refer back to when I'm finished. This week I completed about fifteen blocks for the book and I started a cute Valentine's Day project.

4x7 Sewing Challenge Begins Today!

2/1/2015

4x7 Sewing Challenge at Berry Barn Designs #4x7sewingchallenge
This is it! The 4x7 Sewing Challenge begins today! We all get the next 28 days to carve out thirty minutes of "me time" to sew for ourselves. The first link up will be Saturday, February 7th, and you can share what you've been up to all week - I can't wait to see what everyone is creating! (And though there's not a link up today, if you've blogged about kicking off your goal, let us know in the comments so we can pop over and see what you're planning!)
In keeping with my word this year - "focus" - I'm setting a very narrow goal for myself in the month ahead: PRACTICE LONGARMING EVERY DAY. Last spring I bought a longarm, with the express purpose of spending the rest of the year getting good at it... and then a lot of life events got in the way. (One of which is an adorable, but tireless time stealer! ; ) This month I'm hitting the reset button and getting my goal back on track by spending my thirty minutes a day on my longarm.
I'm going to create a FMQ sampler book, like the one pictured here, quilting a few pages each day. I ran across the idea (on Pinterest, where else?) and loved it - you can check out more pictures and details over on Candy Glendening's website, Candied Fabrics. I especially like the use of the book rings so you can move the pages around as you add; I eventually envision making one with all over meanders, and one with block/shape specific fillers.

I'll be sharing my daily progress on IG, and I look forward to the link up
next weekend when you get to share how the challenge is going for you!

P.S. Don't forget that each week's link up enters you in a drawing!
