I did it. I cut the Kona! I've debated for years while watching so many others take the plunge, but never wanted to break up the binder of color cards I have, since some lines aren't as easily cut-up-able. Then last week while trying - in vain - to decide on the perfect progression of blues for an upcoming project, I gave in. So I ordered a new (303 set) Kona card to have on hand, and I started snipping up my old (270) card.
Midway through snipping, I realized I needed a good way to store the chips to avoid chaos at the start of each use. Fortunately, I remembered that Silvia of A Stranger View had posted about this not too long ago, and after a quick skim of her photo feed, I found the answer: a Lego Minifigures Organizer by BoxBox. It has lots of slots for grouping colors, and it's thin (less than an inch in height) and light weight for storing. I'm going to slip it on the shelf right between my binders of thread and fabric colors : ) I added a few more purples for my Year 40 quilt: Violet Craft's House of Hoppington Orchid Haystack, L's Modern Basic Fuschia Infinite Kisses, and Studio M's Basic Mixologie Violet Breezy. (And later today I plan to sit down and order a little of Alison Glass' new Sun Print Overgrown in Plum!) I'm *so close* to having all forty fabrics for the quilt! What color are you currently cultivating in your stash? After I finish this project, I think I might turn my sights toward green next and take advantage of what's sure to be a bloom of good true greens released on the heels of Pantone's Color of the Year. Do you ever get a beautiful fat quarter set in the mail and have absolutely no idea where it came from?? Well, apparently this happens to me! I gave the mailman a confused look when he handed me the package from Windham Fabrics, and then stood in my studio, still looking confused, with this gorgeous Curious Dream by Angela Pingel in my hand. In all the holiday chaos, I had completely forgotten about winning the Alice in Wonderland inspired fabric from Heidi at Fabric Mutt as part of the recent Curious Dream Blog Hop, but a quick skim of my recent correspondance cleared it up. I love it! I need to think of a project for it. Any ideas?? Linking up with Molli Sparkles' Sunday Stash.
My sister just hit the big 3-0 and I had it on good authority that she'd love some throw pillows for her guest room as her gift. She and I tend to like the same things, and I love wonky stars, so a wonky star pillow is part of the set ; ) I'll share the finished project in a separate post, but in case you're new to "wonky," today I wanted to show you how to whip up a wonky star block that you can use for pillows, minis and quilts!
